1. Role Description
The Network Administrator is responsible for daily network administration functions in managed network service environment, and potentially working in conjunction with a remote Managed Services (MS) Delivery team and other on-site Managed Services Teams.
The Network Administrator is also responsible for on-site liaison with other internal and client-based technical support teams, external maintenance vendors and other third party suppliers to ensure the efficient operations of the Production network environment.
2. Responsibilities : The Network Administrator has the following responsibilities:
 New Network Deployment
Assist Network Architects and/or Professional Services consultants with the installation, configuration, testing and deployment of new network equipment into the MS infrastructure environment.
Perform hardening of network operating system environments upon installation, based on agreed NOE (Network Operating Environment) standards.
2.2. Network Administration
Proactively monitor the availability, performance/ capacity, syslogs and SNMP messaging of network equipment associated with port status and bandwidth
Manage all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, wireless access points, VLAN devices, firewalls, network intrusion system and etc
Perform housekeeping and maintenance procedures for all network equipment, for e.g. routing tables, configurations, log cleanup to ensure they are optimized for performance.
With the assistance of the architects, Professional Services consultants, product vendors and client technical teams, apply patches and perform minor/major IOS updates in alignment with Change Management and Release Management Policies and Processes.
Coordinating third party suppliers attending on-site to perform break/fix and/or change functions to network infrastructure.
2.3. Incident/Problem Management
Assist the Managed Services Level 1 Operations Team with any incident/problem investigations, analysis, and resolution tasks where required. Responsible for Level 2 and Level 3 incident resolution within require service levels.
Provide input and, where required document, document Post Major Incident Reports that capture the cause of incidents, actions taken, resolution performed and root cause analysis of Severity One and Two incidents.
Take ownership of problems when assigned to perform problem management investigations. Perform root cause analyses and identify known errors. In conjunction with other technical teams (internal/external) and product vendors, identify and track when a permanent fix becomes available and ensure that these fixes are passed to the Change Management Process via change requests.
2.4. Change and Release Management
For Production Change/Release, represent the Managed Services Delivery Team at Change/Release meetings, providing input to technical impact of changes, documenting Implementation Plans and Back-Out Plans, testing plans to ensure their accuracy and providing advice and guidance to remote and onsite Delivery team members about changes.
Implement network configuration changes, following Change and Release Management process
Ensure that any associated documentation e.g. operations procedures manuals, network designs, are updated to reflect changes implemented by change/release requests.
2.5. Configuration Management
Document and maintain a list of network assets and their configurations, network diagrams and architecture design to understand the interrelationships of network elements in the MS environment, and ensure that Configuration Management Databases/Asset Inventory Databases are kept accurate
2.6. Capacity, Performance and Availability Management
Provide advice and input to Network Architects, Processional Services consultants and MS Management on capacity, performance and availability requirements of Production network infrastructure.
Investigate and perform root cause analyses of any incidents and/or problems that may be impacting the capacity, performance and availability of the MS infrastructure.
Work closely with other MS teams, client technical staff and third party suppliers in grey area diagnosis of business performance issues across multiple platforms, networks and other infrastructure.
2.7. Other Operational Functions
On-call and out-of-hours support will be required at times e.g. For Severity One/Two Incidents and Change implementations.
Provide advice and suggestions on how Production network environments can be further optimized to achieve greater automation, cost-efficiency, reliability and scalability.
3. Skills, Capabilities and Experience
4+ years experience and working knowledge in network administration, preferably with multiple brands of network equipment and appliances, i.e. Cisco, F5, Juniper, Bluecoat, Fortinet, Riverbed, HP and etc
Exposure in IT operations and network infrastructure management environment
Ability to perform and resolve complicated network problems
Good understanding and knowledge of network security
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, routing, security, firewall and network traffic analysis
